The edging can also be of concrete. The plain concrete surface or the surface with different designs can be planned. The concrete edging is about 6 to 8cms. protruding above the soil. Wood planks are also used for edging. The plank is treated with preservative so that the part which is underground does not rot. There are informal edges also where the material used is stones, soil, bricks etc. They are sunk slightly and often creepers are planted in between.

1. Salvia varigata.
2. Salvia coccinea.
3. Phlox paniculata: It is useful in the mixed border.
4. Centaurea montanca.
5. Geranium pratense.
