Edges
Edges are small areas between the pathway and lawns or walls etc.. The edges are often separated by placing, bricks diagonally. The small areas in the lawns having small flowering plants are separated by edges. Different materials are used for edging like bricks, concrete, wooden planks etc. The bricks for edging are kept diagonally. They are half buried in the soil. The surface of the edging; because of the diagonally placed bricks is uneven.

The edging can also be of concrete. The plain concrete surface or the surface with different designs can be planned. The concrete edging is about 6 to 8cms. protruding above the soil. Wood planks are also used for edging. The plank is treated with preservative so that the part which is underground does not rot. There are informal edges also where the material used is stones, soil, bricks etc. They are sunk slightly and often creepers are planted in between.

Some important edge plants are:
1. Salvia varigata.
2. Salvia coccinea.
3. Phlox paniculata: It is useful in the mixed border.
4. Centaurea montanca.
5. Geranium pratense.
6. Delphenium species.
