Activation of transcription
Activation of transcription as a means of regulation of gene expression has been studied during the last more than 20 years, using techniques, which have undergone a revolution through the development of recombinant DNA technology during 1980s. In a chronological order, initially (1969-73), these studies involved formulation of theoretical models based on the occurrence of large proportion of repetitive DNA in eukaryotes. Later (1973-75), chromatin reconstitution experiments demonstrated a positive control exercised by non-histone chromosomal proteins and still later (particularly in 1980s and 1990s), the role of transcription factors was examined in detail in large number of cases.
